Dec. 26, 2008 - Jan. 1, 2009
  • Daphne makes a wonderful addition to the garden. The creamy colored flower clusters are deeply fragrant during the months of February and March. Glossy variegated foliate is attractive the rest of the year. Daphne does well in a container with good drainage.
  • Check your indoor plants for even moisture. Heat registers and fire places dry them out more in the winter.
  • Take care of your gift plants by placing them in comfortable, well-lit areas of the home. Punch a hole in the foil covering to provide good drainage. Place away from drafts.
  • During winter don’t mow your grass after a rain, and stay off wet grass to minimize compaction.
  • Spray fruit trees and roses with Dormant spray. Fertilize with low nitrogen fertilizer such as 6-20-20 for better spring and summer flowers and fruit.
